To determine the economic feasibility of coal bed methane well, it is necessary to evaluate the productive potential of coal seams prior to well fracturing and formal production including trial production.

Generally, the reservoir data needed for evaluation can be obtained through well test. At present, the well test method that is commonly used in India and abroad is injection/fall-off test in the coal seam.

The in-situ stress or minimum original strata stress, which is in fact the closer pressure at the time, when the fracture is closing after having been opened is one of the parameters needed for the fracturing design and it controls the fracture’s direction, shape and height, etc. Two important parameters for coalbed methane reservoir dynamic evaluation are permeability and reservoir pressure which are obtained generally from IFT.

Besides, we can get well bore pollution, well-bore storage, the multiplication of porosity and compression coefficient, the flow conductivity of fractures for hydraulic fracturing wells, and the distances of gas well reservoirs in consecutive faces.

MAPL has three IFT Units having different Shut-In Tools of different diameter for Core-Hole and Production wells. MAPL has also Packers of different size for NQ, HQ & PQ bore-holes as required for clients’ interest. We use ST86 and ST57 Shut in tools from IPI, Australia and EMGs from PPS, Canada for the operations at site. For processing the data acquired from the well, we use the software Fekete, IHS from Canada.
